About

Hi everyone!

Welcome to Broadway on the Spectrum. For years, I was reluctant to go to musicals because I have high functioning autism and am sensitive to loud, unexpected sounds. When I got up my courage to go, I would shake and cover my ears almost the whole show. My sensitivities were so specific that reviews missed information that I would consider a “loud noise.”

Over several years, I worked hard to be as comfortable as possible in shows.  I listened to soundtracks over and over and over again, so that I knew the show like the back of my hand. My family and I sent emails to the stage and sound crews. I talked to ushers before each show.  Over time, I gutted my way through enough shows to fall in love with Broadway, and now Broadway is my life! I couldn’t imagine living without it; it brings me joy.

But that was a lot of work!  Therefore, I started this website to help people on the spectrum and literally anyone else who has loud sound/light sensitivities feel comfortable about seeing any show on Broadway! For each review, I’ll write some of my own thoughts on the musical overall, but more specifically, I’ll get into detail, time-stamping each time there might be a potentially triggering loud noise or lighting effect. Furthermore, since I’m only one person, and there are always new shows popping up, my family members will also be contributing their own reviews.
